Made during the development stages of ‘Silent Conversations’ this short film bridges the gap between between my research into acoustic ecology and on previous research conducted when writing my dissertation focusing on the varying constructions and applications of eyes present across the animal kingdom.
In an attempt to understand the extent to which my own and the broader human comprehension of place and nature is informed by the evolutionary path of our eyes ‘Emptiness’ ‘空’ (KU) sees the viewer gradually transition from our world of clarity to one of sensitivity and rhythm, how many animals apply their vision. Before finally venturing into a space filled with emptiness as the focus of the camera is drawn through the canopy. For the intended viewing experience this film should be watched in a dark space.
