SILENT CONVERSATIONS, 2025
Silent conversations is a personal exploration of home and the ways in which its ever changing audible landscape has informed my understanding and perception of what it means to be connected with nature.
Using a selection of specialist microphones (hydrophones for listening underwater, contact microphones for surface vibrations and ecoutic microphones for listening below the surface) this film explores the intimate and naturally obscured sounds of geological activity beneath our feet before transitioning into the open filled with the vibrancy of bird song before closing under the all consuming roar of the flight path overhead.
In this semi fictional landscape the sounds recordings I captured have been animated using Cymatics, a process allowing sound to be observed with the naked eye, to create this altogether other space where sound can be seen and time heard. In making this project I wanted to open up the possibility to look again at the influences of sound in shaping our lives whilst acknowledging our vulnerability within and deep dependency upon the fragile coastal area we live in.
